I’ve always tried to capture the beauty in the places I’ve been. I grew up in the Arizona desert which has shaped my sense of what is beautiful and what is mundane. When I moved to southern California I was moved by its beauty. I started looking for a way to share what I saw with others, which eventually motivated me to buy my first camera.
Since then, I’ve taken pictures in many different places in Southern California such as Yosemite, Sequoia, San Diego county, and Orange county. I carry my camera with me in most of my travels within the USA which have included New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Montana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado, and back to Arizona. I’ve taken my camera with me every time I left the country; England, France, Jamaica, and Japan.
I purchased my first camera (a Fujica AX3 35mm SLR) in 1980. In 1997, I purchased a Canon EOS ELan 2 SLR to replace my ailing Fujica. Since then, I’ve upgraded to Medium format with a Mamiya 645 and also gone digital with a Fuji S3 Pro.
As the photographic world moved more and more into the digital realm, I started to see the real advantages to converting all my film to computer readable images. I have “scanned” all my negatives and slides and now can access my entire collection in an instant. I’ve also learned how to digitally retouch photographs which allows you reveal the beauty hidden in a photograph.
